The GoldMoney sponsored Sark to Jersey rowing crew has been named the fastest novice crew in Jersey Rowing club training races. The team which was only formed earlier this year, was mentioned at the Annual Jersey Rowing Club ball by Club Captain Clive Russell. They have also won one of the handicap races this year and are feeling positive about this weekend's race.
Steve Bull who put the team together said being mentioned as the fastest novice crew has given the team a big boost: 'I have rowed before, but the rest of the team are completely new to it. It has been great for team building, everyone has to move and work as one unit, there is no room for individualism in the boat you have to work together to get it over the line. We decided to enter for the challenge. You are not only battling with the physical side of it, but being out on the sea is good fun- especially when it gets a bit rough. The races have been tough at times, we've had a lot of six am starts for races this year to get on the right tide, but we are looking forward to Saturday.'
The GoldMoney team consists of: Stephen Bull, Alberto Miranda, Geoffroy Buffetrille, Ben Sandeman and Georgina Hallows (cox).
The Sark to Jersey race was scheduled to take place on Saturday 22nd June but was cancelled due to the weather. It is around 19 miles, one of the longest sea races in Europe, and the GoldMoney crew hope to complete it in around two hours and 45 minutes.
Crews start from Dixcart Bay in Sark. The race is this Saturday 6th July and begins at 1pm.
